Tarpley Settles Lawsuit With NBA and Mavericks
Roy Tarpley has settled a lawsuit where he claimed the league and the team violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by refusing to reinstate him after a ban for drug use.
If you don't remember Roy Tarpley, who was the 7th overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft was kicked out from the NBA for cocaine use in 1991. Then in 1994 after playing a few years in Europe, he was reinstated but then permanently banned from the NBA in December 1995 for using alcohol and violating the terms of a court-imposed personal aftercare program.
So after getting cleaned up, he tried to re-enter the NBA in 2003 but was denied, so he sued.
This country is fucked up. Roy Tarpley, you had several chances to play in the NBA and you kept screwing it up for yourself. This isn't a violation of the American Disability Act, you were not reinstated after becoming clean because you were permanently banned for being a complete dumbass who blew his second chance. Get over yourself, the only reason you most likely sued is because you blew all your money back in the late 80's and 90's on nose candy.
Terry's Back, Kidd Joins 10k Assist Club
Jason Terry is back from his fractured hand and Kidd joined the 10k assist club, becoming the 4th NBA player to achieve this milestone.
Kidd trails Stockton, Jackson and Johnson on the assists category. If he plays another season or two, he should easily surpass Mark Jackson and Magic Johnson but most likely can't surpass John Stockton, who has an amazing 15806 assists to his career. That's a mark that won't be beaten probably in my own lifetime perhaps.
The Mavericks handed the Raptors a loss in Terry's return and where Kidd made his 10k assist. Now with Terry back, hopefully the Mavs can rebound, get a nice spot for the playoffs in a few months. Let's also hope they can pull together and get another 50 win season so it will be their 9th season in a row with 50 plus wins.
