Judge Dismisses SEC Insider Trading Suit Against Cuban
A federal judge dismissed the suit the SEC brought upon Cuban that alleged Cuban was part of some inside trading for Mamma.com when he sold off his shares, avoiding losing $750,000 in total.
Cuban's lawyers claimed that he was not an insider so the suit is mute on SEC's claims. Apparently the judge sided with Cuban and gave the SEC 30 days to make an amended complaint.
Good for you Cuban. Hopefully the SEC can just drop the case all together and stop wasting money pursuing more actions against you.
Kidd Stays Put
It's been reported that Jason Kidd is staying put in Dallas, most likely to finish out his career in Dallas. Supposedly it's a 3 year deal worth 25 million. Kidd will probably play a major role in Dallas, especially with mentoring Little Jose and Rodrigue Beaubois who is coming aboard from France after the draft.
Also in the works supposedly is acquiring Marcin Gortat from Orlando, which in my opinion is a good move for a big man to backup Dampier before he departs and hopefully take on a full role or starting role. Watching him play with Orlando in the playoffs and finals was exciting, he's got a good open look shot that I think could help Dallas down in the paint.
If Dallas keeps their team intact, maybe perhaps getting someone else worthy from a Dampier, Stackhouse and even Josh Howard trade, we could be building the team that gets us back into competition in the West. The only teams that really scare me now is the Lakers and Nuggets, who only got better after the season is over with some of the players they've picked up.
Mark Wunderlich Sucks
This referee sucks at his job. He couldn't even agree with what the NBA released. Did he not review the replay? I'm sure he's seen it a dozen times already. I'm sure the NBA Execs showed him the review of the FUCKING FOUL he should have called.
This referee either needs really huge thick fucking glasses or he needs to find a new job. So many controversial calls in huge games have not been called by this crappy referee when they should have been.
We have the technology to review games, why not use it on every controversial call or hell, every call to make sure they're making the right call. Fouls are called when they were'n't fouls and then fouls aren't called when they're fucking blatantly obvious.
The NBA needs to find more honest unbiased referees or games are always going to be tainted when shit like this occurs.
Tarpley Settles Lawsuit With NBA and Mavericks
Roy Tarpley has settled a lawsuit where he claimed the league and the team violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by refusing to reinstate him after a ban for drug use.
If you don't remember Roy Tarpley, who was the 7th overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft was kicked out from the NBA for cocaine use in 1991. Then in 1994 after playing a few years in Europe, he was reinstated but then permanently banned from the NBA in December 1995 for using alcohol and violating the terms of a court-imposed personal aftercare program.
So after getting cleaned up, he tried to re-enter the NBA in 2003 but was denied, so he sued.
This country is fucked up. Roy Tarpley, you had several chances to play in the NBA and you kept screwing it up for yourself. This isn't a violation of the American Disability Act, you were not reinstated after becoming clean because you were permanently banned for being a complete dumbass who blew his second chance. Get over yourself, the only reason you most likely sued is because you blew all your money back in the late 80's and 90's on nose candy.
Cuban-Nelson Money Dispute Goes To Mediation
Once again, the dispute over money between Cuban and Nelson is going back to a mediation.
From the SI article:
"Nelson claims he is owed compensation between 1997-2005. Nelson still had a deal to remain a Dallas consultant through 2011 for about $200,000 a year.
The contract terms, originally worked out during Ross Perot Jr.'s ownership before Cuban, required that Nelson be paid through 2012. Nelson was being paid about $1 million a year until Cuban stopped payments after Nelson took the Warriors job."
I know it's only up to around 7.1 million Cuban now owes Nelson and it's a lot of money but damn, it's chump change to Cuban. Just pay him and move on already. We understand you're standing up probably for the principle of the dispute but really, honestly, is it worth all this hassle Cuban?
Mavs Loss To Nuggets
This game was interesting to watch the Mavericks come back from a deficit. But the game ended with a bunch of bullshit calls, mostly going against the Mavericks.
First Terry was called for a foul that wasn't a foul. Secondly with 2.2 seconds left, did anyone notice that Dirk was pushed off from the two Nuggets behind him near the goal? Certainly looked like a shove to prevent him from catching the ball.
I'm surprised they didn't use an instant replay when the game is tied with so little time left with a foul call. The NBA really needs to be better at making the right call instead of allowing games to become more controversial with possible crap calls by blind officials.
Jason Williams Retirement
This is a little off topic, well not far, it's not about the Mavericks but about Jason Williams. He announced his retirement just after 10 years in the NBA. He was primarily a point guard and was part of the Championship team that defeated Dallas.
So I give Jason Williams props. Only 33 years old. Has a championship ring and probably at least a few million sitting in the bank to live off of, I envy that myself. I wish I could retire in 3 years, have a few million, had a kick ass job playing basketball for 10 years with a championship ring.
What more could anyone ask for really?
