Diop Trade
Diop got the news at a Verizon store from Donnie Nelson. This is the second time Diop has been traded by the Dallas Mavericks. So who did we get in the deal?
Matt Carroll and backup center Ryan Hollins. Matt Carroll is supposedly a 3 point specialist.
Diop wasn't playing as much as I anticipated. I think he has more or better potential than Dampier. Dampier gets the job done but I think he doesn't apply himself to be even better. Diop is young and I think if molded correctly, he could be a really good effective player. Hopefully he gets more playing time and improves.
I'll miss Diop, but not as much as I miss Harris.
J.R. Smith Elbow Throwing
Looks like an intentional elbow throw to me. Maybe doesn't deserve a suspension but certainly deserves a warning from the NBA. Stu Jackson and David Stern are weenies.
Bobcat Trade Rumors
According to the Charlotte Observer, the Bobcats are in trade talks with the Dallas Mavericks and OKC Thunder that involves so far Diop from the Mavericks and Raymond Felton and Nazr Mohammed from the Bobcats.
Perhaps since we're not seeing so much of Diop during playtime, this is just another option the Mavericks are taking to free up some salary cap space to acquire in the next few years.
I could see a spot possibly for Felton but I don't see any reason why the Mavericks would need Mohammed, who comes with a pretty hefty price tag of about 13.7 million over the next two seasons, which kind of voids out the salary cap equation since Diop's current contract is around 6 million or so.
Mavs/Raptors Trade Rumors
According to FanNation:
"The Toronto Raptors have been looking for a small forward, and HOOPSWORLD has learned that they may have finally found their man. A deal being discussed would send troubled forward Josh Howard to the Raptors in a deal that would land Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker in Dallas, with a combination that could involve DeSagana Diop and Antoine Wright headed back to Toronto."
Is it true or going to happen? I'm not that familiar with the two players we would pick up and I'm still unsure why we would get rid of Diop yet again.
I would speculate that if this were to occur, it's the Mavericks freeing up some salary cap space to do some shopping in the near future.
2 OT Ends 5 Game Home Streak
The Spurs pulled away with the win after 2 OT, winning 133-126. Duncan scored 8 of his 32 points in the decision 2nd OT quarter.
Kidd almost pulled away with a triple double, scoring 24 points, 12 assists and having 8 rebounds.
Little Jose had another good night being 3rd in scoring for the Mavericks with 21.
The Mavericks also learned that Josh Howard is out indefinitely with his ailing ankle injury that has kept him from playing in their last 8 games. Quite frankly this is only their second loss in the last 10 games, I'd say they're doing fine without their second lead man in scoring and rebounding.
The Little Jose Who Could!
What did the Mavericks put in Little Jose's drink? It must have been magical or something as suddenly the kid has confidence and part of the reason the Mavericks have won four straight games.
The Mavericks beat the Hawks 100-98 with Dirk gathering 24 points and Little Jose as the second leading scorer with 22 points, a career high.
Perhaps the coaches saw the potential in Little Jose and he's now are secret weapon, maybe a reason we did trade Harris and grabbed Kidd to shape this young one into a better player with more confidence to possibly become a respected point guard in the NBA.
Why Oh Why?
Why oh why did we let Harris go?
Harris scored a career high 47 points against the Suns on Sunday night. He also had 7 rebounds and 8 assists.
Why oh why is running through my head right now contemplating on why we traded such a great player with a great future as a great point guard for Jason Kidd who has limited number of years left in him.
Perhaps Cuban should clear his SEC civil suit, buy the Cubs and sell the Mavericks. I'm beginning to think his and Little Donnie's decisions are not in the best interest of the Mavericks being actual contenders in the years to come.
