One Down, Three To Go
Mavericks came up with a surprise win against the Spurs last night in game one of their playoffs. It was worrisome in the first half when the Spurs were up as much as 13 at one point and Dirk was on the bench with 3 fouls early in the game.
Who is the MVP for the Mavs though that helped come back? I'd say it has to go to Little Jose and Bass. Without those two we couldn't have pulled off this crucial win if we want make it to the second round.
Close One
Thanks to Terry, the Mavericks avoided a possible loss to the Timberwolves in the close race to where you're placed in the playoffs.
Terry hit a 2 point buzzer beater (0.2 seconds left) to push the Mavericks over the Wolves 96-94.
This is good since the Rockets pummelled the Hornets 86-66, which now makes them tied once again for the 6th seed. Hopefully the Mavericks can pull a win out against Houston while the Hornets lose in San Antonio.
Playoff Bound But Who And Where?
So who will the Mavericks play in the first round? There's a likely chance they could be the 6th seed if they win their final two games and the Hornets lose their final two games. This means depending on the outcome of the other seeded teams that exclude the Lakers who are the first seeded team, the Mavericks could be going up against the Nuggets, Trailblazers, Spurs or the Rockets.
Let's hope however the result may be that it is the Trailblazers which is the only team they have beaten all 3 meetings during the regular season.
Let's also hope they pull out two more wins to keep their 50 plus wins per season alive and well.
Hornets Fall, 3 More To Go
So the Mavericks beat the Hornets at home, now they just need to win Sunday against the Hornets being on the road to move up to 5th place for the playoffs.
This win tied them for 6th place with the Hornets in the West. Chris Paul had a terrific game but the rest of the Hornets fell flat.
With this type of momentum from the Mavericks, let's hope they can keep it up going into the playoffs with a better spot than 7th or 8th to increase their chances of getting past the first round.
On a side note, there seems to be some talk about the likelihood of maybe Chris Paul becoming a Maverick. In my opinion, I would welcome Paul with open arms. Just as long as the Mavericks keep Dirk and Terry, I'd be happy with such a trade. Well, I still like Bass as well and think he should be kept. I have this feeling he's only going to get better as the years pass and he gets more experience.
Jazz Fall Hard
The Mavericks creamed the Jazz last night, handing them their worst loss of the season to date. Now that they are tied for 7th place in the playoff picture and knocking the Suns playoff hopes out of the picture, the Mavericks need to get two critical wins against the Hornets in hopes they can move up on the playoff berth.
Although I would actually love to see the Mavericks play the Lakers for some odd reason. After seeing last nights game against the Jazz, I think this is a confidence booster for this team and I feel they could get past the first round if they really have it in them.
Four more games to go and we'll see what the Mavs are up against.
Playoffs Approaching
So with the playoffs approaching, the Mavericks are most likely in. If they play smart and win their last 5 remaining games, they could move up a slot from 8th to maybe 7th since the Southwest is so close.
Keep in mind, two of those remaining games out of the 5 are against the Hornets who are 3rd in the Southwest division. They are playing some of the top teams, tonight against the Jazz
The only other threat would be the Suns who is the only other team that could grab the last remaining 8th seeded spot if they were to win their remaining games. Their final 5 games consist of the Hornets who they play tonight and then the remaining are almost all .500 or lower teams, which could result in a 4-1 record. The Mavericks are going against all .500 plus teams except the Timberwolves, which could result in a 1-4 record and a tie with the Suns. Let's just hope that the Mavs can pull it off since they are at home 4 of their last 5 remaining games.
Hawks Surprise
Anyone paying attention to the Hawks - Celtics series? Could it be another upset like the Mavericks encountered last year? I honestly like pulling for the underdogs and the Celtics put together a team of high profile expensive players to try and win a championship, almost like buying the damn thing straight up.
So in regards to this series, I would love to see Horford and company beat the Celtics and move past the first round. I honestly believed the Celtics were overrated this year. Oh well, taking the team with 66 wins in a season to 7 games in the first round is just good basketball to begin with, even if the underdog can't pull it off.
